There are trips that are more than just a destination. They are a reaffirmation of why we do what we do.

Today, at the helm of the Journey, Guille Mellado, Brand Director at Pilatus.

This time, my wife, my son and I ventured to the region that never ceases to impress me: Tuscany. Florence had already been one of my favourite cities, but this time I wanted to rediscover it through the eyes of my family, combining work and personal life in the way I have always dreamed of.

Early mornings and cappuccinos

I'm an early riser.

I love that moment when the city wakes up and I can check my emails with a cappuccino in a perfectly maintained café. In Florence, this has a certain ritual feel.

I worked from 6:00 to 9:00, approximately, and then we would go out and wander the streets, enjoying a city whose corners always have a story to tell. It was during a guided tour, while holding another coffee, that I really realized how special it is to be able to combine these two parts of my life: productivity and enjoyment.

Moments that stay engraved

The Ponte Vecchio welcomed us with a spectacular view of the Arno River. While my son was amazed watching the canoeists passing under the bridge, I was thinking about everything that Florence represents: art, architecture, history... It is a great awakening of creativity.

In Pisa, even though I already knew about the famous Leaning Tower, it is still shocking to see it in person. But what I really enjoyed was the look of wonder on my son's face when he came across a horse-drawn carriage. He is able to find wonder in practically any scene that goes unnoticed by us. I would love to see life from that perspective.

Siena surprised me with its vitality: shops, Erasmus students, and the feeling of being in a small city, but with a lot of life. And in Piazza del Campo, seeing it almost empty in the morning in low season was a gift.

The magic of Tuscany

San Gimignano and Volterra transported me straight back in time. It's impossible to walk down those roads and not think of scenes from Gladiator , especially when we get to the location of the famous scene where Russell Crowe returns home. Those landscapes seem straight out of a dream, with endless hills and roads lined with cypress trees.

A tailor-made lifestyle

This trip was a confirmation of what I want for my life: flexibility and balance between my work and my life. In the end, this is what we want to convey at Pilatus. I like to work while travelling, but I also want to enjoy the day with my family, discover new places and create memories. The key, for me, is to find that balance that allows both things to coexist.

Inspiration for Pilatus

I had with me my Urban backpack , perfect for carrying everything we needed during the day, and my coffee thermos , which was an essential companion on long car journeys through Tuscany.

But there was one moment in particular that made me reflect: as I walked past those carefully designed shop windows in Florence, I thought, “I hope one day Pilatus will be here.”

It is an ambition that I want to pursue, but always maintaining the values that define us.

This trip, besides being a pause along the way, was a confirmation that life can be exactly as you imagine it. You just need the will and strength to build it. And that is what we try to reflect when we talk about Pilatus.

Thank you for allowing me to write this new page in the Journey, and for having shared this little moment with me. See you at the next destination.

Big hug,

Guille Mellado.
