A few days ago I was invited to an event to talk about human resources.
Yes, me. I come from the world of products, marketing, and creating a brand from scratch.
And there he was, sharing a table with talent managers from large companies.
The first thing I thought was:
“Are you sure it’s my turn to speak here?”
And the second was a question that was thrown at me right at the start:
“Rodri, what advice or tool would you recommend to improve your company’s engagement?”
My answer was clear and I shared it last week on Linkedin.
One of the greatest lessons I've learned from entrepreneurship is that people are everything. And that this life, personal or professional, is about just that: people.
At Pilatus , for example, one Thursday a month we invite someone from outside the company to have breakfast with us. They tell us their story, their lessons, their experiences, or their way of seeing the world. And that's perhaps the most magical moment we experience as a team.
The truth is, I felt more like a spectator than a speaker there. Listening. Learning. And feeling lucky to be at that table.
And I left there with an even clearer idea:
Caring for people isn't about grand speeches. It's about being there. About listening. About creating real spaces where everyone feels part of the community.
That's what we try to do at Pilatus every day.
With our backpacks, yes.
But also with our conversations, our decisions, and the way we build teams.
Because in the end, it doesn't matter whether you're selling a product, an experience, or an idea.
If you don't take care of the people around you, everything else becomes meaningless.
See you at the next breakfast.
Or in the next talk.
Or wherever there is something nice to share.
Because that's what it's all about.
Not giving up on what matters.
