The other day I was at the Startup Grind Madrid event and I left with a feeling I hadn't had in a long time. Motivation, new ideas, a desire to build more… and a touch of vertigo, the kind that reminds you that entrepreneurship is a journey that never truly settles.
What I enjoy most about these events isn't talking about Pilatus. It's meeting people who want to start their own business, who are looking for an idea, advice, or simply to see that others are going through the same thing. Eight years ago, I was the one in that situation, going to any free event I could find to see if anyone would say something that would help me figure out which direction to take.
Madrid has an incredible entrepreneurial community. And we often don't even realize it. People sharing real-world experiences, openly discussing their challenges, helping each other without expecting anything in return. That's what I discovered the other day.
Startup Grind, while perhaps still relatively new here, is one of the most powerful entrepreneurial communities in the United States. It originated in Silicon Valley and is rapidly gaining traction in Europe.
I was especially touched when several people approached me after the talk to say that my story had helped or inspired them. Sometimes, when we're caught up in our daily lives, we forget that our decisions and mistakes can be useful to someone who is just starting out.
I wish there were more spaces like this. I wish there were more real conversations. I wish there were more people eager to build.
Madrid is in an incredible moment.
