Product design at Pilatus doesn't begin with a pencil or end with a sketch. It begins with a very simple question:
Will this work in real life?
There are quiet days. Days for thinking, for testing ideas, for sketching and erasing without haste. For making progress little by little, almost silently. And then there are the others. Those in which everything happens at once.
The samples arrive. We have to touch them, open them, measure them. See what works and what doesn't. Prepare mockups, review details, send feedback quickly because production doesn't wait. Decisions that seem small, but they aren't.
Every project has its own rhythm , and design accompanies it every step of the way. From the first idea to the final "OK, go ahead." It's not just about designing how it looks, it's about designing how it's used.
Much of the work happens in conversations. With suppliers, with the team. Talking about materials, colors, zippers, finishes, measurements. Minimal adjustments that make a huge difference. That's where a product goes from being okay to being truly good.
It doesn't always go right the first time. Sometimes it's a "perfect, let's keep going." Other times you have to stop, change things, try again. Unexpected problems arise, and when they do, there's no time to overreact. You have to think fast and find solutions.
Being a designer at Pilatus means learning to adapt constantly. Prioritizing, making decisions, and starting over if necessary. Some days are calmer, others intense, but there's always the feeling of building something real. Something that doesn't just stay on a drawing board.
And none of this is done alone. It's all a team effort. In an environment where ideas are heard, mistakes are shared, and challenges are faced together. Where every difficulty improves the next product.
